Ever walked off the 18th green thinking, “I know I’m capable of better”?
You’re not alone. Many golfers warm up well, string together a few good holes, then watch one or two mistakes derail an otherwise solid round.
After decades of coaching, I’ve learned that many golfers struggle with consistency, less because of their swing and more because of what they do or don’t do before they hit a shot.
Not making simple pre-swing adjustments, attempting shots they cannot rely on, and failing to manage strengths and weaknesses are often the biggest culprits.
These small mistakes lead to unnecessary mishits, big numbers, and rounds that slip away. Most golfers have simply never been shown how to manage the course or get more out of the game they bring with them that day.
That’s what this program teaches:
On-course insights and simple adjustments the best players instinctively factor in throughout a round. Once you start applying them, those “where did that shot come from?” moments happen far less often.
Who Taught Me and How These Lessons Will Help You Play Better Today
I grew up with the Nicklaus family. I was just five years old the first time I played golf with Mr. Nicklaus, and was extremely fortunate to spend time with him and his family, both on and off the course.
On the course, I always paid attention to how he approached the game, how he managed his way around the course, and how he prepared and practiced.
With Mr. Nicklaus (Pebble Beach,18th Green)
Over the years, I’ve taken those lessons and applied them while coaching my own players. This program is built around those same principles, simplified and clearly explained so you can apply them to your own game and start playing better right away.
I was also fortunate to learn from several of the game’s most respected players and coaches, including Jack Grout, Gardner Dickinson, Gary Player, Davis Love II, Bob Toski, Jim Flick, Rick Smith, Martin Hall, Mike Malaska, and Henry Young.
What I share in this program is not about swing mechanics. Instead, it focuses on on-course lessons, mindset, and practical strategies, combined with 45+ years of competitive play and coaching experience. Together, they will help you play and score better with the game you have now.

The Curriculum: On-Course Insights to Improve Your Game Now
“Measuring Out”
A detailed explanation and demonstration of how Mr. Nicklaus determined where to place his hands on the grip for every shot. He referred to this as measuring out, a more precise approach than simply choking down.
This simple pre-swing adjustment is one of the primary reasons recreational players mishit shots throughout a round.
Play to “YOUR” Strengths and Avoid “YOUR” Weaknesses
Learn how to build your course management strategy around the shots and distances you are most comfortable with, while avoiding those that consistently lead to big numbers.
This simple shift in mindset will help you score better right away.
Behind the Shot
Jim explains and demonstrates three simple pre-swing adjustments needed to hit a quality shot from a common situation you face during most rounds.
Once these adjustments are pointed out, you’ll be able to recognize and apply them right away.
On-Course Adjustments When Your Ball Is Slicing
On the course is not the time to try new swing thoughts when your ball striking starts to break down.
Learn simple on-course adjustments you can use during a round to help straighten your ball flight.

Real Results from Golfers at Every Level
From tour professionals to everyday players, these are just a few of the golfers who’ve benefited from Jim’s approach.
Tour Professionals
I worked with Jim on my game for 3 years, while I was a member of both the PGA and Nationwide Tours. Jim was an accomplished player prior to teaching so he understands the game from a player’s perspective. He knows that playing golf is different than playing ‘golf swing’. Having been a player himself, he’s able to effectively demonstrate what he’s teaching. Many times, it was easier to “see” what he wanted me to do by watching him illustrate with his own swing.
Jim also has the unique ability to keep difficult motions simple and easy to implement. This was not only apparent to me and other tour players who worked with him, but I watched him work equally effective with high handicappers… an ability not often found with other teachers.

I have known Jim Sowerwine for about 16 years while he has been at various levels of instruction. After knowing him for a very short while, I decided to have him look at my swing. To me, there is no one more knowledgeable about technique and mechanics than Jim. He was very good at conveying his message in a way I could relate to, which is a special quality in a teacher. Even after I retired from the tour, he helped me keep my game in shape. He is a great coach and I highly recommend him to help you with your golf swing needs.

In their own words.
I live in NY, so I’m only able to meet with Jim a few times a year. When I first started working with Jim, I struggled to break 90 but now I’m breaking 80 on a regular basis. I really like Jim’s approach for helping me improve. We spend quite a bit of time out on the course. Not only does this help us identify my weaknesses so we can prioritize what to work on, but Jim’s insights on the course are off the charts. He’s taught me how to better manage my game and course conditions. I really can’t say enough good things about Jim and the things he’s taught me. If you’d like to improve your game, I highly recommend spending some time with him.

Jim, I cannot find the words to express my gratitude. Your guidance has helped me beyond all expectations. A month ago, I was struggling to break 100. Saturday, I came within 2 strokes of breaking 80. THANK YOU!!!!

I had a series of lessons with Jim. My mind was overloaded with swing thoughts to the point it was not enjoyable to play. Jim simplified my approach to the game by focusing on results rather than mechanics. My scores have improved and more importantly I am enjoying the game for the first time in many years. Thanks Jim.

I started taking lessons from Jim after I fully retired. What impressed me about Jim was not only his ability to see the mechanical problems with my swing but his manner of putting the fixes in words, visuals, and feelings I could understand and relate to. I’ve taken a number of lessons over the years, some from the best instructors out there. Jim’s simple explanations and demonstrations of the corrections I needed to make to my swing have allowed me, after following his advice, to go from around a 15 handicap to a currently trending 9 in a relatively short amount of time. At age 70 I think that’s simply amazing, and I give much of the credit to Jim for making that possible.

I started playing golf later in life and took lessons from a few instructors to get me on the right path. Jim has been by far the most impactful coach I have had. He addressed every aspect of the game, from tee box to green. He incorporates your body type and natural abilities and tailors that into a swing style that fits you. He has also shown me how to manage my tendencies on the course. Couple all that with his patience and pleasant demeanor provides for a very positive learning experience.
